This did have the Rain sensing device installed in the backyard and used to send signals to the <a rel=\"nofollow noindex sponsored nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Rainbird sprinkler controller\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YeLWr8\" data-linkid=\"195824\" data-nojs=\"1\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Rainbird<\/a> controller whenever it rained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rainbird controller would then skip the watering automatically whenever the sensor sensed water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is good and works but does not include the smartness of today&#8217;s world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get smarter and skip the watering if there is a weather forecast for rain on the day of the pre-set watering schedule, you need something that can connect to local weather stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We bought <a rel=\"nofollow noindex sponsored nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Rachio sprinkler controller\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YbQSx6\" data-linkid=\"195825\" data-nojs=\"1\" data-shortcode=\"true\">Rachio<\/a> 3 for the same purpose and my experience is that it does work in real time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">City Rebates on Smart Sprinklers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most cities in the USA promote installing <a rel=\"nofollow noindex sponsored nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Smart Sprinklers\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3SfWH8U\" data-linkid=\"195826\" data-nojs=\"1\" data-shortcode=\"true\">smart sprinklers<\/a> (which RainBird is not) and subsidize the purchase and installation cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our case, the City was paying a maximum of <strong>$75<\/strong> for purchase (including installation).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rachio controller normally sells for about $200 in the open market but Costco and Samsclub usually run deals in winter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We timed our Rachio 3 with 12 Zones from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.costco.com\/rachio-3-smart-sprinkler-controller%2C-12-zone.product.100481393.html\">Costco<\/a> for $100 in January. This is pretty useful.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even though we can adjust the watering schedule manually, the best part is that it adjusts the monthly watering schedule automatically based on the season.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Smart Start and End times<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Intelligent enough to start and end watering at the time of night when the evaporation is lowest to save water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cycle &amp; Soak<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Intelligent watering technique in a round-robin fashion to increase water absorption by the soil.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Water for like 3 minutes and then let the soil soak for another 3 minutes and then water again for another 2 minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All these times are managed automatically if you select the &#8216;Cycle and Soak&#8217; feature in the <a href=\"https:\/\/app.rach.io\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rachio app<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"803\" height=\"835\" src=\"https:\/\/am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-30.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-195831\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-30.png 803w, https:\/\/www.am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-30-470x489.png 470w, https:\/\/www.am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-30-185x192.png 185w, https:\/\/www.am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-30-768x799.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 803px) 100vw, 803px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rainbird WiFi &amp; Smartphone App<\/strong> <strong>-$$<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rainbird, on the other hand, sells the wifi connector separately easily costing about $100 extra over and above their controller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-auto-amazon-links wp-block-embed-auto-amazon-links\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Amazon Product\" src='https:\/\/am22tech.com\/amazon-auto-links\/embed\/?embed=amazon-auto-links&#038;uri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FRain-Bird-LNK2WIFI-WiFi-Module-Controllers%2Fdp%2FB09G61NKC3%2F#secret=d9dfac82a1' width='600' height='200' frameborder='0' scrolling='no' marginwidth='0' marginheight='0' class='wp-embedded-content aal-embed' data-secret='d9dfac82a1'><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you install this Rainbird WiFi module (hardware) on the RainBird Controller, you will be able to access the app on your phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"1280\" src=\"https:\/\/am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-31.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-195832\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-31.png 720w, https:\/\/www.am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-31-470x836.png 470w, https:\/\/www.am22tech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/image-31-108x192.png 108w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The app is still not smart enough to connect to weather stations and automatically make decisions on skipping watering.
